Philip Bane is an expert in applying technology to achieve sustainability. The Smart Cities Council is a coalition of organizations that seek to accelerate the move to smart cities with better liveability, workability and sustainability.

Philip is working currently to expand the Council’s operations globally and recently led the launch of the Smart Cities Project Activator – the world’s first software as a service offering for planning and financing city projects.

Prior to joining the Council, Philip managed large data integration projects in the North Sea, developed CCTV hardware and software solutions and was an analyst in the Smart Grid Sector as Managing Editor of

Philip is a global entrepreneur having launched businesses in India, Russia and the USA. Philip also has a legal background and served as General Counsel of First Virtual Inc., the first online payment system, which was purchased by Softbank.
